Trans-manchuria and train rides
Seven days to go from Harbin, across Siberia finishing at Moscow.
The layout of the hard sleeper trains in China. Six bunks in each section. Affordable and comfortable.
Looking out of our train carriage on the Trans-Manchurian train.
Changing the bogies at the China/Russian border. The train tracks are different widths, so the carriages need to lifted onto new bogies.
Our train being shunted around on a 11 hour wait at the border.
The border town of Manzhouli on the Chinese side.
Chinese dining carriage.
Looking out at the end of the train.
Platform kiosk. They can't sell vodka, but a lot of varieties of 10%+ beers.
Train carriage end passing Lake Baikal.
Lake Baikal - the deepest fresh water lake in the world. You can just see the head of the train on the far left.
Overlooking Lake Baikal from the mountains.
Moscow - Beijing.
Station stop at night.
Women sell smoked omul fish at a brief stop. The fish only lives in Lake Baikal and is a Siberian speciality.
Platform kiosks. Some better than others.
A commemorative train with a history of Russian railways along it's side.
Novosibirsk station by night. The capital of western Siberia.
The Russian restaurant car is so bad and expensive, generally most people rely on the platform sellers.
