Qinghua school life
School life at Qinghua Middle School and to junior schools around Chongqing.
Senior 1 military training the first week at school. Compulsary.
Standing in line on the football ground
Parading in front of the school dignitaries and People's Liberation Army representatives
The school dignitaries watch over the pupils in seering Chongqing heat. Some pupils fainted.
A sports ground in the hills. Dazu county.
After each external school visit there was usually a grand banquet and plenty of toasting with the lethal Chinese baijiu white spirit. Mr Yin the Principal of our school is busy tucking in on the left.
Starting line of the 100m at the school sports day.
Noodle boxes stacked in the school shop for recycling. Even in China, most students disliked the school dinners preferring to buy snacks.
A class in rural Chengkou county. For most it was the first time they had seen a foreigner. Notice how all the kids are wearing their coats. All the schools don't have heating and they loved to keep the windows open for the fresh air.
Everytime we went on school visits, English teachers always want us to give motivational speeches to the class. This is actually a spacious small class.
A class goes crazy when we say we want to take a photo of them.
An impossible task. Giving a lesson to the whole school of 1500 in the playground.
Another grand school parade. This time to celebrate the school anniversary.
Junior school kids wait outside school.
A normal sized external school class of a few hundred pupils.
An unlucky select bunch of students get a special English class from some foreigners they can't understand. Their usual English teachers sit at the back hoping to pick up some teaching tips.
We were treated like celebrities, all the kids asking us for autographs and email addresses.
Note our lesson materials at the front of the class. We did a lesson on the weather and taught them 'Singing in the rain'.
Senior students gather in the school sports hall. The school had over 4000 students, 3500 boarders.
