sun001 - anthony atkinson

a. Mental Notes A Plenty (mp3/real)
b. Half An Hour In The Afternoon (mp3/real)
   Summer's Out (mp3/real)

The first record on the label comes from the excellent singer songwriter Anthony Atkinson. Following in the footsteps in the likes of Richard Buckner, Damien Jurado and Joe Pernice, Anthony's songs chronicle the small important things in life with a sense of melancholy.

The title track 'Mental Notes Aplenty' is a song about people who are gullible enough to believe everything they are told, especially about their relationships. 'Half An Hour In The Afternoon' is a track that Anthony feels most people can relate to. The old story of someone who loses their sense of self when they become so wrapped up in someone that they live entirely through them. Featuring great instrumentation and melody it will have you thinking. The slow folky 'Summer's Out' takes us to the end of the EP. A personal song based on his own experiences of growing up on the north coast of New South Wales and getting a different impression of the same place through changes in circumstance and company.

A fine voice, great lyrics and subtle use of instrumentation, this EP is a perfect introduction to Anthony's work getting better with each listen. Look out for Anthony's debut UK tour supporting The Lucksmiths starting at the end of October 2003.
