The Lomo lowdown
1. Lens
Specially developed wide angle Minitar 1 lens developed by Professor Radionov. The lens is super sharp and intensifies the colours of your subject. A 'tunneling' effect occurs where the colours are more intense at the centre of the photo and a halo effect occurs around the edges.
2. Exposure setting
Move the lever to the 'A' setting in order to set the Lomo into automatic mode. Under this setting the exposure is automatically calculated by detecting the amount of light on the outside. In dark conditions the exposure can be over a minute. You really have to keep your hand steady or you can deliberately move the camera to create special 'speed' effects. Forget about the other settings as they are for use with a flash.
3. Focus lever
Four settings - 0.8 metres, 1.5 metres, 3 metres and infinity. You slowly become proficient in moving the level up and down to the desired setting with your finger without looking. Sometimes you might set it at the wrong point, but many blurred lomographs look great too.
4. ASA film speed setting
Set your film speed using the little wheel.
5. Viewfinder
Look through this tiny viewfinder to compose your picture. One red light turns on when you press the shutter. If two red lights come on it means low light and you need to be very steady.
6. Flash shoe
No need to use this with the auto exposure.
7. Film counter
You can squeeze 40 pictures onto a roll of film, but always carry some spare film.
8. Shutter button
Hold this down until you hear two clicks. If it's noisy and you can't hear it you can feel it.
9. Film winder
Click click, wind, click click, wind...
10. Battery compartment
You don't think that all the qualities of a Lomo comes free. It does require three little watch batteries placed into this little compartment.
11. Tripod screw
If you want a steady Lomograph in dark environments. You can get a mini clamp and clamp your Lomo to your bicycle, scooter and take a lot of fast Lomographs.
12. Lens cover
Slide the tab and two metal shutters slides over the lens and protects it.
