Web designer and developer since 1999 with experience of Web development in an academic, commercial and not for profit environment.

I have balanced skills in creative design and technical coding. This enables me to work within these two areas and more importantly, in complex integration work. I have key skills in usability, accessibility, cross platform/browser issues, CSS based design and user interface design.

I work equally well alone and as part of a large multifunctional team. I have good practical, communication and organisational skills and have been a mentor and team leader. I am currently working for a national housing and homeless charity maintaining and developing their many websites, used for advice, campaigning, fundraising and as a major source of housing policy and practice.

In my spare time I enjoy photography using film cameras, working on personal photography projects, cycling, as well as spending time volunteering.

Shelter - The housing and homelessness charity

I work on projects for all divisions within Shelter – from campaigns and fundraising to policy, legal and training – to design and develop effective web materials. I am involved with all streams of electronic communications including email marketing, online advertising and social networking.

Housing League Table

A dedicated campaigning / lobbying site highlighting the poor performance of councils in their affordable housing provision. Councillors can search for detailed housing data for their area, and the general public can email their local councillors through the site in response to that data. Integrated with a postcode lookup system to locate local authorities and councillors. An admin interface was created to manage data imports and exports.

Architect in the House

Website for the RIBA partnered fundraising initiative, where the public can sign up to obtain a consultation with an RIBA architect in return for a donation to Shelter.

A bespoke administration system was written to facilitate the matching process of architects to participants. Makes an integral use of AJAX to speed up the admin process.

A resource DVD part of the HomeTime! fundraising pack for schools. Dual platform DVD containing a menu system to PDFs, MP3 and video clip fundraising resources.
Cake Time

Fundraising initiative to raise money for Shelter through holding cake sales. A dedicated micro-site was built to take registrations and donations. Visitors can download recipes and can share their own recipes.

Will Bex

A simple portfolio site for Director of Photography Will Bex showcasing his work on commericals and music videos. Videos include Robbie Williams, The Ting Tings and Florence and the Machine.

Coupled with a bespoke admin system allows new work and clips to be managed with minimal of fuss.

Beijing, Lomo and Me

Website for a personal photography project, presenting a series of 20 themed photowalls and diary entries, created following a trip to Beijing for the Lomography World Congress in 2004.

Each photowall was put together using the thousands of photos taken from that trip, all taken with the Lomo LCA Russian film camera.

National Phobics Society

A volunteer project that I took on as part of the IT4Communities scheme. The National Phobics Society is the largest charity dealing with anxiety and phobias. Design and implemented a new site which significantly increase traffic, online donations and membership applications.

Winner of the IT4Communities Awards 2006 for most accessible website project, Shortlisted for the Charity Website of the Year at the UK Charity Awards 2004
